Patriotism in the U.S.
A young boy named Tom walks into room 301 for the first time in his life. The teacher tells the students to sit in their assigned seats. When they do, the morning announcements begin, and following them, the Pledge of Allegiance. As Tom recites the Pledge, he looks admiringly at the flag hanging in the corner of the classroom, and at the one right outside the window flying proudly in the center of campus. Students recite the Pledge of Allegiance every day at school. We’re taught to be patriots from the first day of kindergarten to the last day of senior year, whether we realize it or not. By learning to be patriots from childhood, we create a united country, brought together by honor. It’s absurd that someone would even ask the question “does patriotism matter today?” Our ancestors before us were patriots, our mothers and fathers are patriots; we are brought up to be patriotic from day one. There’s an American flag in every single class room at school, and hanging outside of a lot of houses. If patriotism didn’t matter today, our nation would be lost in chaos. There would be civil wars left and right; our country is held together by patriotism. The people of the United States, are very patriotic. We even named one of our football teams “The Patriots.” Patriotism is, very much so, still important today. People have television shows that talk about history, the country, and the patriotic people in it that make it a better place. Do you think that if people didn’t care for our country those television shows would still be in business? If people didn’t care about the country, there really wouldn’t even be a country to be patriotic to. There would be a country in ruins. There is a love for our country that is very strong, and how could anybody question that?
